Conference Overview:

Green World Conferences are pleased to announce that 2nd HydroTech Albania conference and exhibition will be held on 10-11 February 2016 in Tirana Business Park.

The conference will provide a platform to exchange information and the opportunity for both the potential and existing investors and the investment community to meet and network in a 5 star environment. It is intended to support hydro development in Albania, to increase foreign direct investment and aid further privatisation of the hydro power industry.

While the event will be showcasing many technology providers it will also be content driven and will address the key issues the hydro energy industry is facing today in Albania, including the main drivers: reducing CO2, increasing energy security, enabling access to affordable financing, reducing production costs and alleviating poverty in rural areas.

Albania has a liberalized economic framework and conditions for doing business and attracting FDI are improving constantly. In Albania, building new power generation capacities and transmission lines to support its future energy needs and to export is a government priority. According to Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) the country has only exploited 35% of the total potential. Total hydropower reserves are estimated at around 3,000 MW. Potential annual generation may reach up to 16.000 GWh.

Furthermore, the Albanian electricity system relies almost entirely on hydro to cover its electricity demand with 1.7 GW of hydropower capacity installed, according to information from the Energy Community.

Conference overview:

Albanian hydrographical territory is 44, 000 m2 or 57% larger than its geographical territory. The country has eight main rivers: Drin, Buna, Vjosa, Semani, Mati, Shkumbini, Ishmi and Erzeni. The average altitude of the hydrographical territory is about 700 m above the sea level. The total average flow of the rivers is about 1245 m3/sec. Due to the morphological features, Albania is quite rich in rivers, with more than 152 rivers and torrents forming eight big rivers.

Although with small flows, their considerable cascade makes these rivers substantially important for the hydropower potential offered to the country. Consequently, Albania is seen as a country rich in water reserves and a hydropower potential that bears an important developmental role for the country.

Albania has big hydro-energetic potential and only 35.4% out of it is used so far. The total hydro-energetic reserves enable the installation of 4500MW power network and its annual electric power production could reach up to 16TWh.

EITI can be a tool for accountability in Albania. Case studies and examples were
provided.

The
domestic legal and regulatory framework that governs the relationship between a
host-country government and investors can include several pieces of domestic
legislation (including the constitution, the mining or petroleum code, the tax
law) and a series of contracts or licenses between (and among) investors and
the host country, and can cover myriad issues: fiscal terms, competitive bids,
community rights and benefits, health, safety, and environmental obligations,
and disclosure of information, among many others. This session describes the
interaction among these different elements of a domestic legal framework, and
the implications of certain key provisions.
